Community Host at St John’s House
The office for Interserve Great Britain and Ireland is based at St. John’s House in Birmingham.
This is how the vision for St. John’s House is described:
God is three-in-one and has made us for community. The Interserve community is one that seeks to practice wholistic ministry as a way to model and encourage the church to cross boundaries – ethnic, cultural, socio-economic, intergenerational, and more. This boundarycrossing is what makes the Interserve community missional.
Our heart is to see John’s vision realised:
After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.
Revelation 7:9a
Whatever we do as Interserve people, whether on the street, in the workplace, in homes, supporting others, praying for the sick or answering emails: this is our heart motivation. We can try to define missional community with words but the most effective way to understand it is to experience it. St John’s House is a place where we desire to see missional community modelled, both for those who are getting to know Interserve for the first time and for those who have already been a part of the Fellowship for many years, whether as Partners, staff or volunteers. It also provides a way for younger people, both from the UK and around the world to experience intercultural ministry in a supportive environment.
This is our vision for St. John’s House:
- Loving God as a community: prayer and worship at the center. Love for one another
- Loving the local community: a center of good practise for expressing wholistic ministry
- Loving the Church community: a place to envision one another and learn together
- Loving the broader Interserve community: a more authentic location for National Office presence. A place of welcome for the worldwide Interserve family. A place to model missional community.
We are dependent on God to see this vision come to reality. Part of this dependence is expressed in prayerfully seeking the right people who God will call to help bring this vision to fruition. We believe that there are a number of key roles that we must fill – and one of these is Community Host at St John’s House.
We are looking for an individual or a couple who:
- Are willing to be community builders and invest in the lives of those who pass through and live at St John’s House.
- Have experience of intercultural ministry and/or experience pastoring those doing such work.
- Are up to the challenge of prayerfully leading and nurturing this community of believers while experiencing life in one of the most multi-cultural suburbs in the UK
Could this be you? To explore further please contact us.
